Searching for Purpose: It's all about who you know!

Living in a small community as some of us do, we understand the importance of ‘who you know’. Typically when we talk about ‘who you know’ we’re referring to the benefits that come from knowing a person of great influence.

Who you know can take you places. Who you know can open doors that you didn’t even know were there. We see it in the world of work, in political circles, and sometimes even in the church. We seldom like to admit it and we often wonder if it’s fair. But perhaps, knowing the right person has its advantages. Especially when you’re on the receiving end, right?

As followers of Jesus, we are in the best position to benefit from this ‘who you know’ idea. But it might not be in the way you think.

Acts 17:24-25

The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

This is the God we know. He is Lord over all, maker of everything, and he does not need anything from anyone. This is the guy in charge and the man to know. Talk about influence!

Simply put, our God is amazing!

Acts 17:26

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

The creator of the very universe is the same God who determines our steps and gives us purpose. He has marked out a specific time in history and a specific place for you to live and experience Him. None of this is by coincidence.

Everything that happens in our lives has been ordained, orchestrated or allowed by the Great I Am.

But what, might you ask does this have to do with purpose?

You see, this amazing God who made the entire universe designed everything in such a way, in this time and place, for one very specific reason.

Acts 17:27

God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

God ordered everything in this world so that we would seek Him.

Everything that happens in my life, both good and bad, has been done so that I can seek God and reach out to Him.

So when it comes to purpose, we don’t have to look far at all.

If you’re searching for direction in your life, go to God for the answers.

Not sure which way to turn? God will show you the way.

Wondering if you’re on the right track? God will let you know.

Thinking you might be taking on too much? That too He can make clear.

After all, He is the guy to know! He is the One with all the power and influence.

You see, who you know (God) has already set you up for success. You need not worry yourself with trying to do it all. God is willing to give you the clarity you need to accomplish His will during your lifetime. You just need to ask Him.

So let’s stop trying to be all things to all people and turn to God for guidance. Ask Him to show you your specific role and purpose and what you need to accomplish each day.

When you turn to Him, He will not let you down. And knowing God intimately makes all the difference in the world.
