Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right (Psalm 149:14).

As I meditate on this verse I am reminded of the role and responsibilities of a mother. The task of motherhood can become overwhelming at times, and if we are not careful we can be boxed into the many titles and labels that the world places on us; causing us to become discouraged; for fear of not measuring up.

We must remember as women, that our true identity is in Christ, and whilst it is nice to get the accolades of our spouses, friends, employers and civic organizations, the measure of our true worth comes from God, and is written in the pages of His Word for our benefit.

The Psalmist David declared: “I will praise thee (LORD); for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” What does the word “fearfully” mean; you may ask? The word “fearfully” normally carries a negative connotation. However used in this context, it takes a different meaning: that of uniqueness and being purposely set aside.

According to Christian author, David Peach, “God has created us the way we are for a reason. Therefore, we don’t have to feel undue pressure to be like other people because God did not make us like anyone else.” We are uniquely different.”

Knowing our worth as women, as mothers, and standing firmly on the promises of God allows us to take our rightful places in our homes, our churches, our workplaces and in our communities. So, I encourage you fellow sisters to rise up and celebrate the unique gifts God has placed within us, and know with assurance that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image to do marvelous works; for when we do, we can transform our homes and by extension, our world. Today is as good a time as ever to celebrate this new-found purpose!

Remember, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Let us therefore go and proclaim in His marvelous works, and live each day with that renewed assurance.
